Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my 365 blog!

{If you'd like to visit my portrait photography website, click here.}

I'm a mom of 2 kids and have been a photographer for over 4 years. I decided to task myself with doing a 365 {or rather 366} photo project for 2012. I will take a photograph every day, with my "big girl camera". It will mostly be about my life, portrayed artistically. I want to challenge myself creatively and try new things. I'm excited about where this project will take me and I hope you will follow the journey with me!

Twins Update! - Seattle Modern Child Photography

Here's some new photos of my favorite family with two, yes two, sets of twins!  This session marked the older twins' 4th birthday, and their younger sisters were almost 1-year old in these photos.  So, if you're wondering, YES, they {and we - me and my parental support crew} were extremely busy in this 1.5 hour session.  I was literally sweating afterwards, and even a little sore the next day :)

But it was worth it!  Aren't these photos scrumptious?!

Unlikely Bird's Nests | Seattle Child Lifestyle Photographer

My sweet, zany kids.  How did bath night turn into this??!  They make me laugh until my belly hurts :)

Chapman Family | Issaquah Portrait Photographer for the Modern Family

Meet the Chapman Family.  You may remember seeing their photos from last year.  I've had the pleasure of working with them for 3 years now, and I adore them!  They have 2 girls who just loved getting their photos taken this session.  We met at the beach just before sunset after a hot, sunny day.  It was packed!  A hot, sunny day in Seattle is just hard to come by, so the entire city flocks to the water on days like this.  I'd say the biggest obstacle for this shoot was composing the photos without any beach combers in the background!  Emma and Lauren loved playing in the sand, going on a long walk, jumping off old logs, finding dandelions, running through the grassy maze-like paths, and cuddling all together on my grandmother's soft quilt.  This is one of those sessions that just came all together.  They are a sweet, happy, loving family who had a lot of fun together that evening despite all the people!

Asher - Seattle Child Photographer for the Modern Family

This is Asher.  He's the same age as Isaac, so I felt like we were comfortable and had a lot of fun together - even bonded a little!  He was a trooper as well.  We took many photos inside then went to a nearby park and did more of the same thing.  He hardly needed any bribing at all! :)

I took photos of his little sister, Lily and posted a few of my favorites last week here.  They are both sweet, wonderful kids and I can't wait to see how they grow and change!

Child & Family Wardrobe Ideas for Summer 2011 Portrait Sessions

Happy Wednesday!

Since it's Wednesday (hump day!) today, I wanted to share this great photography reference I came across.  I found them on Facebook- its a page called Wardrobe Wednesday {where fashion meets photography}.  The admin's are several photographers who collaborate on trendy, stylish wardrobe ideas for child, senior, and family portrait sessions.  They post tips, coordination and accessory ideas.  What a great idea!  I've had some time to put together my own wardrobe ideas but often I don't have the time....(who does with two rug rats running around)?

I consider myself moderately stylish but I definitely do not own all the season's key must-haves.  For instance, I don't own a fedora but think they're fun (on other people); I own one pair of flat gladiator-like sandals (probably because I wear a size 9 and think my feet look awful in them)!  I also WILL NOT buy an 80s floral one-piece short outfit (it reminds me too much of growing up in the 80s and I NEVER thought that trend would come back).  In my defense, I do have several wedge sandals and open-toed shoes, a few pairs of skinny jeans, trendy skirts and earrings, and several FUN tops with asymmetrical hems, stripes, or fun embellishments (think Anthropologie - my FAVE store).

So, check out the summer wardrobe ideas below courtesy of these fashion divas for inspiration for your upcoming portrait session, and THANK YOU Wardrobe Wednesday!! And remember to always accessorize and layer.  It gives us considerable variety while shooting.   I'll be sure to follow-up with a similar post in the Fall.

So Happy the Kids are HEALTHY again!

I haven't posted for a while because my little ones caught some nasty virus and were sick for 2 weeks - no kidding.  It was terrible.  The ER doc thought my daughter Ella had Giardia although we had no idea where she would have gotten it.  It was scary and I felt helpless.  Nothing was helping her.  She couldn't keep any food down and was wasting away in front of my eyes.  I went to bed Sunday thinking I'd have to take her to the ER again but by some miracle of God, she woke up with a smile on her face Monday.  I was tentatively happy, thinking it was just some temporary remission.  But,  three days and a doctor's checkup later, I'm so excited to say they are better and back in school!  I've been really blessed with happy healthy kids, and this experience reminded me never to take that for granted.

Below are my two favorite photos from a leisurely afternoon spent playing in our neighborhood two days ago.

April Mini-Sessions

I recently had some mini-sessions to celebrate the opening of my studio.  The studio worked well and I LOVED my new lights!  The families were fantastic and (I think) really had a good time.  This first photo below is one of my favorites.  She's absolutely beautiful.  The boys below were crazy hard to photograph!  We had to pull out the major distractors to get some still shots, and I really love that you can get a sense of their personality through the photograph.

I also found some great settings around the studio for some of the urban and park photos shown below.  Enjoy-

Fall 2010 Wrap Up

Well, I lied.  I said I'd have some new posts coming soon (back in September) but to be honest, I'm not a very good blogger.  So I thought I'd try to resurrect this by at least posting some of my absolute favorite photos from the fall, which, I'm happy to say, was the busiest season to date for my business!  Thank you all for your support.

Here goes......and, BTW, if you're a Facebook fan, these will look very familiar to you!

Urban Sessions with the kids

I've been experimenting with urban backdrops and have to say - I LOVE the look!  What do you think?
